EVGA Allegedly Cuts Out Original Developer of Precision Overclocking App

EVGA allegedly violated the license agreement it held with the original developer of its Precision overclocking and monitoring app, when it developed the latest version of its Precision X 15 app, featuring what it claimed to be a "100 percent in-house" back-end code. EVGA Precision was originally based on RivaTuner codebase, which developer Alex "Unwinder" Nicolaychuk licences out to several major VGA add-in board manufacturers; the more popular being MSI Afterburner. The RivaTuner base, derived from Unwinder's pioneering VGA tweaking app, forms a vast majority of the code of the likes of Precision and Afterburner, with clients going only as far as to innovate shiny skins and UI ideas, or add-on features (ideas), which are then put into code by Unwinder.

Unwinder alleges that the latest version of Precision X, the one EVGA claims to be an in-house development, continues to be largely based on RivaTuner, including the more superficial bits of it, such as user interface dialog control IDs (the way the app takes inputs from the user), and text from the multilingual help system. The installer in which Precision X is packaged, ironically, continues to feature the licence agreement copied over from the older version.

Dell Precision M3800 Goes Official, 3200 x 1800 Display Confirmed

Last week we had reported that Dell is working on a new power-packed mobile workstation dubbed the Precision M3800. At SIGGRAPH, Dell will take the wraps off their next-generation portable workstation. On their corporate blog, the company confirmed much of the rumored specifications which include:
  • 4th Generation Intel Core i7 quad-core CPU
  • NVIDIA Quadro GPU
  • 16GB RAM
  • QHD+ (3,200 x 1,800) multi-touch display
  • 1TB HDD, or 512GB SSD
Despite being loaded to the brim, the Dell Precision M3800 will compress everything into a 0.7" thick body, which weighs in at 4.5 pounds. There's still no word on the pricing, but that should slip out soon. Whatever it'll be, it sure won't be cheap.

Dell To Launch Precision M3800 Mobile Workstation With 3200 x 1800 Display

Dutch site Tweakers.net has reported that Dell is planning to introduce a new Precision series mobile workstation laptop. Dubbed the Precision M3800, this workstation on-the-go will pack a super high resolution display to the tune of 3,200 x 1,800 pixels. Phew, that's a lot of pixels, and all of them will be spread across 15.6-inches of diagonal real estate. Also in tow is a powerful Intel Core i7-4702MQ quad-core Haswell processor, 16 gigs of RAM, option between a 1 TB HDD or 512 GB SSD (hint, pick the SSD) and of course, the 15.6" 3,200 x 1,800 display (which can also be swapped with a 1080p panel... Right!)

The Dell Precision M3800 will reportedly measure just 18mm in thickness (0.7 inches) and weigh less than an average newborn, in just 2KG (about 4.4 pounds). The publication mentions that the starting price of the workstation will be $1,699, but could go up to $1,999 (you got to pay for the pixels). Of course, nothing's official. All we can do is wait for Dell to go official with the device, and hope that the specifications mentioned come true.

Scythe Grand Kama Cross 2 Top-Flow CPU Cooler Generally Available

Japanese cooling expert Scythe announcing the second version of its Top-Flow CPU cooler "Grand Kama Cross". Scythe Grand Kama Cross 2 is based on the same X-Structure concept as the predecessor, allowing especially efficient cooling of both CPU and surrounding components such as VRMs or RAM, and comes with various improvements. In addition, the X-Structure allows the fairly large CPU cooler to have high compatibility with many motherboards and PC Cases.

One of the key goals when designing the Grand Kama Cross 2 was to significantly improve the performance. Hence was achieved by using a large 140 mm axial-fan from the Glide Stream series. Thanks to its larger diameter and PWM-support, sufficient airflow between 37,37 and 97,18 CFM at noise level from 13 to 30,7 dBA is assured. Fan speed can be adjusted individually according to the CPU temperature by the motherboard stepless in the range from 500 to 1.300 RPM. Furthermore, key features of Glide Stream 140 case fan series such as the four anti-vibration rubber pad-inlay and grooved blade design further benefit the Top Flow design of Grand Kama Cross 2 CPU cooler.

Introducing the EVGA GeForce GTX 760 and EVGA ACX Cooler

The EVGA GeForce GTX 760 is the new weapon of choice for gamers - a powerful graphics card that gives you the fast, smooth, quiet gaming you're looking for in all your favorite titles. This series will also use EVGA's award winning cooler; the EVGA ACX Cooler. This double ball bearing design redefines traditional enthusiast coolers. Starting with a 40% increase in heatsink volume, the EVGA ACX is more efficient at dissipating heat, allowing for 15% lower GPU temperatures.

EVGA also spent time to ensure that even the fan blades were of the highest quality; with a 700% increase in strength, and 25% lower weight when compared to competitors dual fan designs. This makes the fans 20% more efficient by requiring lower power levels. Of course, EVGA is also using double ball bearing fans which offer a 12 year lifespan; this is 4X longer when compared to competitors.
