Ratoc Intros MR08 Line of Dual-SDXC Card Readers for Amateur 3D Video Production

Ratoc thinks it solved the problem of left/right plane's misalignment found with amateur 3D video recordings, caused by filming equipment that write each plane's video onto a separate memory card. The misalignment issue, according to Rotac, is usually caused during production, when each plane's memory card is separately loaded. Its answer: a card reader two two independent SDXC bays.

The MR08 line of readers, from Ratoc, available in internal 5.25" form-factor and an external one measuring 192 x 274 x 60 mm, feature dual SDXC bays, a variety of other single bays (such as MS, CF, 2.5-inch SATA), and USB 3.0 SuperSpeed interface to make sure bandwidth is never an issue. The production software can access both memory cards simultaneously, cutting down production time, and potential latency issues. The two will be launched soon, in markets around the world.

Ratoc Intros New Wireless Card Reader

Japanese peripherals maker RatocSystems announced a new wireless multi-format card reader built on a similar principle to wireless hard-drives, where the drive is tossed out, to make room for the reader. The REX-WIFISD1 from Ratoc features an SDIO slot that supports micro/mini/standard SD/SDHC/SDXC cards, and a USB 2.0 port, to which any mass-storage device can be plugged in. Contents of the two are then made accessible wirelessly over 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, as network shares. The card reader packs in its own power source, a rechargeable 3,000 mAh battery, which can keep it connected for approximately 9 hours on a full charge. Ratoc also introduced file-manager apps for Android and iOS. Measuring 79 x 118 x 14 mm, it weighs about 120 g. Prices vary store to store.

Ratoc Systems Unveils 2-bay Enclosure/NAS

Ratoc Systems unveiled the RS-EC32-CLD, a 2-bay 3.5-inch SATA drive enclosure that works as both a USB 3.0 RAID enclosure, and a RAID-enabled NAS. The enclosure offers RAID 0, 1, JBOD modes, with the ability to hot-swap drives in RAID 1 mode. When connected via USB 3.0, the enclosure behaves as a USB mass-storage device. As a NAS, it supports basic features and protocols, including remote access over internet. Measuring 81 x 173 x 123 mm (WxDxH), and made mostly of SECC steel, its dry-weight is around 820 g. Slated for early-October, it is priced at 16,800 JPY (US $214).

RATOC Systems Intros USB 3.0 RAID Box

Japanese company RATOC Systems introduced a trio of products that lets users expand their data storage once they run out of drive bays and ports in their case. The first one is the RS-EC32PE-U3R, a bundle consisting of a 2-bay USB 3.0 to SATA 3 Gb/s RAID enclosure and a PCIe USB 3.0 addon card; the RS-EC32EX-U3R, which is a bundle including the same 2-bay RAID enclosure, but including a 2-port USB 3.0 expansion card in the ExpressCard34 form-factor; and REX-PEU3X, which is a standalone 2-port USB 3.0 expansion card in the PCIe form-factor.

The expansion cards in these bundles are based on new Renesas μPD720202 chipset. The RAID enclosure has two 3.5-inch SATA drive bays. Its controller provides a maximum data transfer performance of 372 MB/s. It supports disk organization modes of "single" (just a single disk connected), RAID JBOD, RAID 0, and RAID 1. Expected to launch mid-March, the RATOC RS-EC32PE-U3R and RS-EC32EX-U3R are priced at 11,130 JPY (US $138), the REX-PEU3X goes for 3,360 JPY (US $41.7).

RATOC Intros DisplayLink-Certified USB 3.0 HDMI Display Device

Japanese company RATOC introduced the REX-USB3HDMI display adapter. The device connects to a host machine over USB 3.0 SuperSpeed interface, taking both power and connectivity from a single cable, and gives out a single HDMI display output. Under the hood is a DisplayLink-designed chipset, which went on to certify the device. While the device still works at its resolution over USB 2.0, USB 3.0 is recommended for smoother display and video playback. Measuring 42 x 64 x 14 mm (WxDxH), the device weighs about 26 g. Its highest resolution supported is 2048 x 1536. It's possible to connect as many as six of these devices to a single USB 3.0 hub without facing performance issues. Slated for mid-March, the RATOC REX-USB3HDMI is priced at 10,500 JPY (US $131).
