Razer Could Introduce Company's First AMD-Powered Laptop

Razer, the maker of various gaming peripherals and gaming PCs/Laptops, has been a long-time user of Intel CPUs in their laptops devices. However, that might be changing just about now. According to some findings by @_rogame, there was a 3D Mark benchmark run that featured AMD Ryzen 5000 series "Cezanne" mobile processors. What is more interesting is the system it was running in. Called Razer PI411, this system is officially Razer's first AMD-powered laptop. While we don't have many details about it, we have some basic system configuration details. For starters, the laptop carries AMD's top-tier Ryzen 9 5900HX overclockable mobile processor. Carrying a configured TDP of 45 Watts (the maximum is 54 W), the system is likely not equipped with sufficient cooling for overclocking.

When it comes to the rest of the laptop, it features NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of storage. Being that this laptop was codenamed PI411, it could indicate a 14-inch model. However, we still don't know if it is ever going to hit consumer shelves. Being that Razer never carried an AMD CPU option, this could just be an engineering sample that the company was experimenting with, so we have to wait to find out more.

Razer to Acquire Specialist Console Brand Controller Gear

Razer, the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers, intends to acquire console accessories brand Controller Gear. The console gaming market is forecast to grow 21.0% year-on-year in 2020 to US $51.2 billion according to Newzoo, more than double the growth projection made before the COVID-19 pandemic. This considerable growth is a result of three factors: strong demand for the latest gen consoles, pandemic fueled demand for all consoles across generations, as well as the highly accessible, plug-and-play nature of console gaming being easy to pick up. In recognition of the high growth potential of the console gaming market, Razer has continually innovated in this category to introduce premium console peripherals, including the popular Razer Wolverine controller and Razer Kaira headset lineups. Razer, the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers, today announced their new proprietary Razer HyperPolling Technology, debuting in the new Razer Viper 8 KHz mouse, the world's first esports gaming mouse with true 8000Hz Polling rate. Razer HyperPolling Technology surpasses the industry-standard 1000 Hz polling rate with a true 8000Hz polling rate for performance at the speed of thought, ushering in a new era of gaming responsiveness, speed, and reliability.

Currently, most top gaming mice support polling rates of up to 1000Hz, and whilst manufacturers have focused on making mice more accurate and responsive, little consideration has been given to the frequency with which click and positional data is transmitted to the PC. With faster PCs and higher refresh rate monitors, higher polling rates can eliminate annoying micro-stutters, significantly improving gameplay performance when a fraction of a second can be the difference between winning or losing.

Razer Tomahawk Modular Gaming Desktop Arrives

During CES 2020, way back in January of this year, Razer had shown off a quite interesting concept. Called a modular gaming desktop, the concept has a goal to allow users to just swap-out parts on the fly and have no trouble doing so. Razer Leaks Personal Information of Over 100,000 Gamers

Security researcher Volodymyr Diachenko has discovered a security breach over at hardware peripheral manufacturer Razer. Reportedly, Mr. Volodymyr found a badly configured Elasticsearch cluster filled with over 100,000 data entries of Razer customers. That means that anywhere from customer email, physical address and phone number have been exposed to the public, making this leak potentially dangerous. What is even more dangerous is that the Elasticsearch cluster was not only exposed to the internet, however, it was also indexed by a search engine, making the data more easily searchable and discoverable. This is a pure admin fail, no hacking was required, they just left the front door open. Razer issued an official response to the incident below:
RazerWe were made aware by Mr. Volodymyr of a server misconfiguration that potentially exposed order details, customer and shipping information. No other sensitive data such as credit card numbers or passwords was exposed.
The server misconfiguration has been fixed on 9 Sept, prior to the lapse being made public.
We would like to thank you, sincerely apologize for the lapse and have taken all necessary steps to fix the issue as well as conduct a thorough review of our IT security and systems. We remain committed to ensure the digital safety and security of all our customers.
