It carries forward the smooth and effortless sound found in the open-back 600 family with a modern, airy signature that balances honesty with deep and articulate bass. Thanks to a high damping factor, the 150-ohm aluminium voice coil excels at speedy transients and well-defined instrument tails for punchy dynamics across the entire frequency spectrum—a boon for audiophiles and passionate gamers trying to consume as much detail as possible in a given moment.

Sennheiser Introduces HD 490 PRO Reference Studio Headphones

Sennheiser has launched its brand-new open-back HD 490 PRO reference studio headphones, purpose-built for producing, mixing and mastering. The circumaural, dynamic headphones feature highly precise sound reproduction and a very wide and realistic sound stage. This superior accuracy and range give producers, mixing and mastering engineers, as well as musicians, the transparency they need for critical mixing decisions and for confidently resolving any panning placement issues. The HD 490 PRO and HD 490 PRO Plus (includes additional accessories) are available now.

"If you compare today's music productions with that of ten, 20 years ago, you will notice how the massively increased computing power and complex parameter automation have changed the way in which music is made," shares Jimmy Landry, Category Market Manager for MI at Sennheiser. "In every genre, engineers and music creators are continuously pushing boundaries, creating extremely complex mixes that can be prone to so-called 'audio blind spots'. Mixes can be crowded and muddy, with too many instruments sitting at the same position and their frequencies competing. For the engineer or musician, it becomes difficult to hear each individual instrument or voice distinctly. This goes to show the importance of a good pair of studio headphones."

Sennheiser ACCENTUM Plus Wireless Over-ear Headset Pictured

The ACCENTUM line of wireless headsets by Sennheiser target power users and professionals, with its main segment competitors coming from the likes of Jabra Evolve 2 series. The European pro-audio brand punched into the segment with the original ACCENTUM Wireless, and now brings its generational upgrade, the ACCENTUM Plus. What's changed, is a whole suite of touch based controls, including touch gestures, which replace the tiny physical buttons on the original. Another major upgrade is support for Bluetooth Multipoint. Other features include wind reduction and an adjustable side tone. Sennheiser also made some improvements to the adaptive ANC system of the headset. When it goes on sale on February 20, the Sennheiser ACCENTUM Plus will be priced at $230.

Montblanc Launches the MTB 03 ANC Earbuds with aptX Adaptive

Luxury brands and consumer electronics don't tend to be a good mix, largely due to the luxury brands either not caring or not being knowledgeable enough about the product they're making. Montblanc has taken a very different route with its new MTB 03 ANC earbuds, as the company has cooperated with Axel Grell, who used to work for Sennheiser before setting up his own brand of audio products. In all fairness, Montblanc did a similar team-up for its MTB 01 headphones where they worked with the founder of Audeze. The MTB 03's feature 7 mm beryllium drivers and are built around a Qualcomm Bluetooth 5.2 chipset which Montblanc is leveraging by adding aptX Adaptive support.

Furthermore, Montblanc has added support for Mimi Hearing Technologies sound personalisation software, on top of the tuning provided by Axel Grell. Sadly these luxury buds aren't without shortcomings, as the battery life is said to be good for only six hours of listening time, with another two full charges in the charging case. That's far less than most competing products on the market today. The charging case can be charged wirelessly or via USB-C and a 15 minute charge of the earbuds is said to be good enough for 100 minutes of playback time, while a full charge takes 90 minutes. For those still interested, a pair of the MTB 03's will set you back £345 or around US$439, although that price includes 20 percent VAT.

Grell Audio and Drop Collaboration Prototype Headphone Shown Off at Expo, Targeting Approximate $300 Unit Pricing

Axel Grell was a guest speaker at the New York edition of CanJam 2023, and delivered a talk that expounded on the geometrical design of a headphone in relation to a listener's spatial perception of audio. Attendees of the expo were surprised to find that the ex-Sennheiser engineer had a new gizmo to show off on the show floor. The prototype headphone's origins are clearly linked to his research into the shape and directivity of sound fields, with the result being an unusual front-mounted driver orientation.

The super angled driver design will emphasize soundstage, which is an aspect vaunted by gamers in the search of the ideal headphone for competitive multiplayer sessions. Grell told attendees that the open-back prototype is 'version 1' and that it was constructed via a 3D printing process, he also added that the drivers are made from a biocellulose membrane. The chosen collaboration partner seems to be Drop (formerly Massdrop) and that a launch price of around $300 is being discussed.

Sennheiser Launches New Profile USB Cardioid Condenser Microphone

Sennheiser has launched the Profile USB microphone, a cardioid condenser microphone that presents an easy and stylish solution for streaming and podcasting. It combines professional sound with direct accessibility of all functions, allowing streamers, podcasters and gamers to fully focus on their content. The side-address microphone is available as a table stand version ($129 USD, MSRP) and as the Profile Streaming Set with a 3-point self-locking boom arm ($199 USD, MSRP). Both models are shipping from today.

At the heart of the Profile USB microphone is an award-winning Sennheiser condenser capsule, the KE 10. Its cardioid pick-up pattern provides the typical attenuation of sound coming from the rear, making sure that the streamer's voice is in focus.

Sennheiser Launches the Momentum 4 Wireless ANC Headphones

Sennheiser's MOMENTUM range continues to redefine the standard for sophisticated listening through superior sound. Now, the new MOMENTUM 4 Wireless raises the bar even higher, with best-in-class sound, advanced Adaptive Noise Cancellation and exceptional comfort. With smart, intuitive features that enhance every interaction and an outstanding battery life of up to 60 hours, there's nothing between users and an incredible listening experience.

"Our MOMENTUM range has always set the standard for sophisticated listening with superior sound," says Christian Ern, Sennheiser Principal Product Manager Consumer Headphones. "The new MOMENTUM 4 Wireless once again raises the bar - delivering best-in-class sound quality with advanced Adaptive Noise Cancellation and exceptional comfort. Thanks to features including Transparency Mode, Built-in EQ and a new Sound Personalization feature, users can listen in their own customized way."

Sennheiser Momentum 4 Wireless Headphones with ANC Leak Ahead of Launch

After having launched the Momentum True Wireless 3 earbuds, Sennheiser is about to release a new set of wireless headphones that goes under the name of Momentum 4 Wireless. The new headphones will go up against the likes of Sony's WH-1000XM5 and Bose's QuietComfort 700 models and it looks like Sennheiser might end up with a few wins here. The Momentum 4 Wireless design could be described as a more refined version of what Sony did with the WH-1000XM5, but with a wider headband and seemingly a lot more metal. The headphones come with a travel case that has dedicated space for all the cables, as well as a travel adapter.

Spec wise, it appears that Sennheiser has gone with a Qualcomm chipset, as the Momentum 4 Wireless supports aptX and aptX Adaptive, as well as the SBC and AAC codecs. Bluetooth 5.2 is said to be supported, but it appears that Bluetooth LE audio might be missing. The headphones still feature a 3.5 mm jack, for when the 60 hour battery life isn't enough. Charging is done via USB-C, but it's unclear if this can be used for audio as well or not. Sennheiser has moved to touch based controls, something the Momentum 3 headphones lacked. ANC is of course also part of the package and Sennheiser has implemented what the company calls adaptive noise cancelling and there's also a transparency mode. There's also a four microphone array, which Sennheiser claims offers crystal-clear voice calls. Other features include automatic pausing and on/off when the headphones aren't being used. The Momentum 4 Wireless should come in both black and white colour options, but it appears that the new design isn't foldable, much like its competitors' new headphones. No word on pricing, but the Momentum 4 Wireless are expected to launch later this month.

"The MOMENTUM True Wireless 3 builds on a powerful heritage. With the Sennheiser Signature Sound, TrueResponse technology, next-level adaptive noise cancellation and an even better fit, these earbuds are the natural successor of the MOMENTUM series."

Just like its predecessors, the MOMENTUM True Wireless 3 delivers outstanding sound quality, centered around Sennheiser's True Response transducer. Based on dynamic 7 mm drivers manufactured in Germany, it produces an immersive stereo sound with deep bass, natural mids and detailed highs. The new Sound Personalization feature provides an enhanced sound experience via a guided listening test to setup the perfect sound for each user's individual hearing. In addition, the Smart Control App offers a choice of presets and an equalizer feature to tailor the sound to the user's taste.

Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 Leak Courtesy of Lufthansa

It's not every day new hardware, or as in this case, new TWS earbuds, are leaked by an airline, but in this case, Lufthansa has jumped the gun and leaked the upcoming Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 earbuds. This happened courtesy of the airline's WorldShop website, although by now the product listings have been removed. However, courtesy of several publications online picking up on the leak, we now know what to expect from Sennheisers next generation of TWS buds.

Designwise the changes are fairly minor, with the most noticeable changes being in the addition of a graphite colour option, with black and white still sticking around. The charging case now supports the Qi wireless charging standard, which should appeal to some potential customers. Battery life for the earbuds remains at 7 hours, with a further 28 hours or four additional charges provided by the charging case. It takes about 90 minutes to charge the earbuds in the charging case, which also sports a USB-C port. The earbuds have support for Bluetooth 5.2, but there's no mention of Bluetooth LE audio support. On the other hand, SBC, AAC, aptX and aptX Adaptive are supported. The Momentum 3's also supports hybrid adaptive ANC with four microphones per earbud, which should be a step up over the previous generation. The Momentum True Wireless 3 are said to launch later this month and the MSRP should be around €249 or around $275.

STRAX Launches High-end TWS Headphones Designed by Axel Grell

There appears to be no shortage of new TWS headphones being announced, but these ones are slightly different from the competition, as they have 27 year Sennheiser veteran Axel Grell behind them. The grell TWS/1 is the first product from grell, a brand from STRAX, which is also home to Urbanista, WeSC and several other brands that mostly focuses on audio or mobile accessories.

The TWS/1 does as you'd expect, focus on audio quality, but also includes all the kind of features you'd expect from current generation TWS headphones, such as ANC, Bluetooth 5.2 and support for the SoundID app from Sonarworks. The TWS/1 is based on Qualcomm's QCC5141 Bluetooth SoC which sits in the premium tier of Qualcomm's product stack and features a pair of DSPs as well as a system processor and an application processor.

Sennheiser Communications A/S Gaming Division Splits Off To become EPOS

Sennheiser is well regarded in the audio space and has released several popular GSP series gaming headsets such as the GSP 670. These headsets were manufactured, sold, and serviced by Sennheiser Communications A/S which was formed as a joint venture between Sennheiser and Demant in 2003. This joint venture will be coming to an end in 2020 and will involve Sennheiser absorbing the Mobile Music headsets division while the Enterprise Solutions and Gaming headsets will evolve as a new independent company EPOS, fully owned by Demant. EPOS will manufacture and sell the existing Sennheiser Communications portfolio for Enterprises, and Gaming co-branded as EPOS | SENNHEISER products, while also introducing a new EPOS branded portfolio.

The new campaign is headlined by a new flashy short film by Academy Award-winning Danish director Anders Walter which focuses on "Out of this world gaming audio". The new company is headquartered in Copenhagen Denmark and operates in a global market with offices and partners in over 30 countries.

Sennheiser Launches GSP370 Wireless Gaming Headset, 100 Hours of Battery Life

Sennheiser today launched the GSP370 gaming headset, which will allow you to immerse yourself in virtual worlds for as many as 100 hours between charges. Sennheiser have managed to improve power efficiency of the GSP370 over their current flagship, the GSP670, by more than five times - that one headset only lasts between 16 and 20 hours for each full charge. And this battery efficiency didn't come at the cost of maximum output levels - the 117dB SPL makes sure of that.

There's a noise-canceling mic in the headset, and memory foam pads appeal to comfort and extended gaming sessions. The GPS370 is compatible with PC, Mac, and PlayStation 4 (and Xbox as well with the headphone adapters or newer controllers) and is available on Sennheiser's website starting today for $199.95. Data transmission is taken care of by Bluetooth 5.0 (in a dongle adapter) and there's a micro USB charging cable in the box, which is enough to power the headset for usage even if its battery runs completely dry. Sennheiser will also include its GSA 50 headset hanger, which normally sells for $38, for free.
