Synology today announced the general availability of ActiveProtect, a new line of data protection appliances that integrate enterprise backup software, server, and backup repository into a unified solution. Designed to simplify complex data protection, ActiveProtect offers comprehensive platform support, advanced security, and scalability, all with a transparent pricing model.

Synology at the 2025 International CES showcased updates to its popular consumer network storage products, beginning with one for its popular BeeStorage line of flash-based personal cloud devices. The new BeeStation Plus comes with 8 TB of flash-based storage—double that of the original BeeStation from 2023—and updated system hardware that includes an Intel Celeron J4125 processor with 4 GB of DDR4 memory, USB 3.2 Gen 2 type-A and type-C ports; and an updated software frontend, including the BeeProtect software that makes snapshots and other forms of backups of your machine. The device continues to lack Wi-Fi, and relies on wired Ethernet to connect to the network.

Next up, the company showed off a couple of its entry-level desktop NAS solutions under the DiskStation brand, the DS224+ (2-bay), and the DS423+ (4-bay). Both feature SATA 6 Gbps drive bays, and you can expand storage using any USB mass-storage device that plugs into its 5 Gbps USB 3.2 port. The DS224+ comes with two 1 GbE interfaces. Under the hood are a Celeron J4125 processor backed by 6 GB of DDR4 memory. The DS423+ can hold up to 72 TB of storage, and besides the four SATA 6 Gbps bays, has two M.2-2280 slots with Gen 3 wiring. The NAS can access any of its drives at up to 226 MB/s reads, with up to 224 MB/s writes. Networking interfaces include a pair of 1 GbE. Lastly, the company showcased a series of "direct-to-cloud" WLAN and PoE surveillance cameras under the C2 Camera series.

Synology today announced that Surveillance Station will support automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) in collaboration with Plate Recognizer. This partnership provides added capabilities that Synology NAS and AI-enhanced NVRs bring to a variety of deployment needs, such as those in commercial property management, transport infrastructure monitoring, and more.

Synology today announced the launch of BeeStation, a new addition to its product line designed to bring personal cloud storage to everyone, particularly those who seek simplicity and ease of use. BeeStation will make backing up, managing, and sharing files adaptable to any lifestyle without subscription fees and with maximum control over your private data.

NAS major Synology showcased its latest consumer NAS, personal cloud, and surveillance solutions at the 2024 International CES. Starting things off are the company's latest TC500 and BC500 high-resolution wired cameras; and the CC400W wireless cameras, enhanced with AI. This may sound nebulous, but upon detecting movement, the cameras automatically move to zoom in on faces or vehicle license plates, and automatically dial up video resolution and probably bitrate (image quality). The wired cameras come with 5 MP sensors, while the wireless ones have 4 MP (capable of 1440p @ 30 FPS). Each of these comes with a dark light that can illuminate up to 30 m. They also come with microSD slots, to in the event of network failures, recording continues onto a memory card. You don't need a Synology Surveillance Station device license to use these.

Moving on to the stuff Synology is best known for, NAS, and we have the upgraded DiskStation DS1823xs+, an 8-bay business grade NAS with a combined RW throughput of 3100 MB/s reads, with 2600 MB/s writes; over 173,000 IOPS random reads, and over 80,800 IOPS random writes. The main networking interface is a 10 GbE, but with an additional PCIe Gen 3 x4 slot to drop in more NICs. The NAS can pair with DX517 expansion units over USB 3.1 to scale up to 18 drives. The DS423+ is a compact 4-bay NAS powered by a Celeron J4125 quad-core CPU, 2 GB of RAM, and room for two M.2-2280 NVMe SSDs besides the four 3.5-inch HDDs. The maximum rated throughput is still around 226 MB/s, but the main networking interfaces are two 10 GbE. The DS224+ is nearly the same device, but with just two 3.5-inch bays, and two 2.5 GbE interfaces.

Synology today announced the launch of the VisualStation VS600HD, a compact monitoring and management client for Synology Surveillance Station. VS600HD supports up to dual 4K displays and is easily VESA mountable behind monitors, enabling space-efficient TV-wall deployments for security teams. "VS600HD makes it extremely simple to create a custom monitoring solution," said Joseph Liang, Product Manager for Synology surveillance products. "We designed VS600HD to be practically plug-and-play, allowing for energy and space-efficient monitoring and management of cameras, access control, and more."

With dual 4K HDMI outputs, each VS600HD supports concurrently displaying up to 50 camera feeds arranged across two displays. Multiple VS600HDs can be deployed in tandem to support more extensive video monitoring needs. Depending on the needs of the deployment, customizable access to camera controls, maps, previous recordings, and more can be enabled to allow for faster security incident response. Surveillance Station supports per-user permissions and delegation for maximum flexibility.

Synology today announced the DiskStation DS224+ and DS124, the two newest additions to Synology's range of data solutions for professionals, small teams, and edge deployments. An even more secure foundation: DSM 7.2, expected in early 2023, will introduce full-volume encryption, offering greater peace of mind while boosting storage performance by 48% over shared folder-based encryption. DSM 7.2 will also introduce "write once, read many" (WORM) folders. These tamper-proof folders prevent modification or deletion of data during a set period of time. TerraMaster, a professional brand that specializes in providing innovative storage products for home, businesses and enterprises, announces the new Terra Photos application - a new AI-assisted professional photo management application designed for content creators.
