CORSAIR Shows Off Lighting Concept Using Capellix LEDs in Cases

CORSAIR introduced us to their small form factor Capellix LEDs, co-developed with Primax, at CES last year and has since been utilizing them in memory and peripheral products alike. So it was just a natural next step for them to find a way to include them into their cases, and the company took to CES 2020 to show off a traditional retail case which has been covered with a film encompassing these LEDs.

The glass panels are lined with a thin, transparent film so that you are able to have a matrix of these RGB LEDs on the backside without any easily visible wires, which makes for quite a unique look. This implementation does require a lot of more complex wiring relative to a standard LED strip, tiny as it still may be spatially, which currently limits the number of LEDs that could be embedded in such a removable panel, but the result is attention-grabbing regardless. There is no concrete launch date or pricing for this, and CORSAIR is still deciding if they will include these on current cases as a special edition or for future enclosure products. That said, the implementation at CES already looked pretty clean externally and, a fun fact is, you can touch them on the backside of the glass panel and will not get zapped.

Seagate Launches 5U84 High-Density Enclosure with Next-Generation OS

Seagate Technology plc today announced the launch of the 5U84 high-density enclosure built with a next-generation operating system that together delivers performance, capacity and reliability. The 5U84 enclosure and firmware technology will enable businesses to store massive quantities of data in a high-availability enclosure that provides high performance access to data. What's more, Seagate Systems' operating system not only powers the high density 5U84, but dramatically improves the system's performance and reliability, increasing confidence in using high-density enclosures.

As with any technology, it is critically important to create layers of protection when it comes to data storage, particularly in markets such as video surveillance, where the integrity of the data is critical. Using next generation data protection technology, Seagate's Advanced Distributed Autonomic Protection Technology (ADAPT) can eliminate up to 95% of performance degradation during a disk drive rebuild when compared to traditional RAID solutions, meaning the 5U84 is essentially "self-healing". The technology disperses data across multiple drives, allocating more resources to rebuilds, thereby reducing the time needed, minimizing the risk of a data unavailability issue and giving the end user uninterrupted access.

Developers on the Move: NVIDIA Partners Working on External GPU Solutions

At SIGGRAPH 2017, NVIDIA announced it is working with a number of partners towards the development of external graphics enclosures that can power - and increase mobility - of their professional-geared GPU solutions. Namely, NVIDIA has announced external GPU solutions featuring the powerful Titan Xp and Quadro graphics cards. These external GPU solutions are meant to upgrade the capability of notebooks to support new workflows such as video editing, interactive rendering, VR content creation, AI development and more. Such has been enabled by the latest, high-bandwidth Thunderbolt 3 protocol. For the Quadro eGPU program specifically, Nvidia is working with established manufacturers like Sonnet, Magma, Akiti, and Bizon. The company says there are more to come.

Pricing information has not been revealed for now, but Titan Xp can already be ordered, while the Quadro solutions will see availability in a few weeks.

GIGABYTE Releases AORUS GTX 1070 Gaming Box

GIGABYTE, the world's leading premium gaming hardware manufacturer, today announced the release of the highly-anticipated AORUS GTX 1070 Gaming Box, a true plug-and-play external graphics solution that was unveiled earlier at COMPUTEX 2017 with much attention received for its innovative design and affordability. Pre-installed with a high-end GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card, the device can easily transform any Thunderbolt 3-enabled laptop into a powerful gaming battle station.

Unlike most conventional external graphics enclosures that come with an empty dock, the AORUS GTX 1070 Gaming Box is a complete package with a factory-overclocked GTX 1070 graphics card already built inside, requiring no extra hassle or cost to put together an accommodating graphics card separately. Thanks to the Thunderbolt 3 connectivity, the device is able to provide a significant graphics boost to laptops with a blazing-fast data transfer speed of 40Gbps, while delivering up to 100W of power to the connected laptop at the same time with the embedded 450W PSU. The Thunderbolt 3 plug-and-play support also allows for quick, easy connections without having to reboot the PC.

SilverStone Fortress Box External Thunderbolt Enclosure Pictured

SilverStone showed off the Fortress Box (FTB01), an external Thunderbolt enclosure, which expands the connectivity of your notebook. The case stands tall, with a small desk footprint. It encloses a 500W power supply, and plugs into your machine with a Thunderbolt 3 (40 Gb/s) connection. Inside, you'll get a PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slot, letting you install a high-end graphics card (over 25 cm long), and some front-panel connectivity such as USB 3.1 ports. The top of the enclosure scoops into a cavity with air vents, and is arched by a convenient handle.

SilverStone Announces the Vital Series VT02 - Compact Mini-STX Chassis

If you're looking for an enclosure for a media streamer or a work computer, SilverStone has just announced a compact chassis that you might be interested in. The VT02 measures 6.5 (width) x 2.87 (height) x 6.16 inches (depth). The fact that the chassis supports a mini-STX motherboard means you will not be constrained by your choice of an off-the-shelf processor - just remember that a Kaby Lake CPU is required for 4K Netflix. You can even acquire a more powerful drop-in upgrade down the road. The height of the system, however, will severely constrain your choice of cooling, but if you're looking into such a product, you know this already.

The chassis supports 2x 2.5" hard drives or SSDs, with the front panel including 1x USB 3.0 Type-A, 1x USB 3.0 Type-C, and an audio and microphone jack. A vertical LED light bar on the front panel handles power-state notifications, and the case increases its air circulation through large vents on the top and sides. It sports a VESA MIS-D 75 x 75mm mounting plate, which allows this chassis to be attached to the back of your TV or monitor. The Vital Series VT02 Mini-STX has a one-year warranty, and retails for 28,90€ / $31.50.

Thermaltake Intros the Core P7 Tempered Glass Chassis

Thermaltake today introduced the Core P7 TG (tempered glass), a premium quasi-open-air chassis for premium, liquid-cooled builds. This tower-type chassis features a motherboard tray with dual orientation. You can orient your motherboard such that it is perpendicular to the plane of the base with its I/O area pointing upwards; or along the plane of the base (pedestal), with its I/O pointing towards the rear. The main frame holding the motherboard tray has two ends that turn 180° along hinges, so it can create "enclosures" around two sides of the tray.

The case features a multitude of radiator mounts, including 140 mm x 420 mm mounts along the two folding sides of the tray, and mounts for reservoirs and pumps in the reverse side of the motherboard tray. You also get multiple 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch drive mounts, depending on how you orient the motherboard tray. The case features 5 mm-thick tempered glass panels. Available now, the Core P7 TG is priced at US $299.
