Value and Conclusion

  • The 2 GB kit of A-DATA DDR2 1200 MHz CL5-5-5-15 is available now and should cost around $199 US Dollars or 199€.
  • 1200 MHz out of the box at default voltage of 1.8V!
  • Still slight headroom to 1244 MHz
  • Fairly independent of voltage increase. Great for boards which do not have the ability to supply more voltage than default.
  • Lifetime warranty
  • Sticker on DIMM holds information for two speeds
  • Heatspreaders look great
  • Won't do 1066MHz at CL4-4-4-12
  • Won't work with CL3-2-2-4
  • Sticker does not mention rated voltage
  • Heatspreaders need two sided memory to hold properly
A-DATA has once more managed to produce some very interesting memory. Even though it is rated for a minimum of 2.3V the memory ran perfectly fine at 1200 MHz even at default voltage and CL5-5-5-15. This is certainly a first for such high speed memory, but we should note that the 2 GB two sided kit may not have that same attribute. Nonetheless, this memory is perfect for people who do not have a mainboard with a lot of tweaking options, simply set the speed and CL and you are good to go, even if you cannot change the voltage supplied to the memory. The new heatspreaders look very nice and should fit great on two sided memory, but there is a gap with single sided DIMMs. This is something most manufacturers have to deal with as there have been similar sightings with other one sided memory modules. The A-DATA Extreme Edition is a limited one according to the A-DATA website, so you may want to get your hands on a kit as soon as possible if it meets your needs.
