Akasa Gemini Notebook Cooler Review

A Closer Look

The Gemini cooler is made completely of plastic. The most important upside of this material is the fact that the unit is incredibly light and that a design of air vents is only possible due to plastic. The downside is the construction quality: It is suceptible to bumps, scratches or blemishes.

The underside has a label which clearly states the model and the rating of the fans. The two units within the Gemini are 70 mm large and are rated for 0.1A. These fans have been placed behind crude air vents.

The only logo is on the front right corner of the Gemini. It is the company logo. There are no other markings on the notebook cooler, it would have been nice to place the "Gemini" name somewhere as well. On the rear are two USB ports and a power switch. Any one of the USB connectors can be used to power the fans.

Taking the unit apart is easily done by removing several screws on the underside. The fans are not of the traditional type. These are of the same format as found on modern graphic cards like the Radeon HD 3800 series or the dual slot GeForce graphic cards. The upside of these is created airflow not through the fins, but push air out into a tunnel or channel.
