ASRock X299 Killer SLI/ac Review

BIOS Overview »

Board Layout

ASRock has once again outdone themselves with the board's aesthetic design. The X299 KIller SLI/ac is nearly all black, with a huge "K" logo emblazoned across the front of the entire board, yet this is done in an easy-on-the-eyes gray rather than a high-contrast white. There are a fare number of surface-mounted components on the rear of the board that you want to be mindful of when installing this board into your case.

The socket area is fairly tight, with the DRAM slots very close to the socket. You get a triplet of M.2 ports, all of which offer 32 Gb/s connectivity, along with SATA 3 support.

There are 8 DIMM slots on the ASRock X299 Killer SLI/ac, ready to push 4400 MHz memory and then some, provided you use the right CPU.

The ASRock X299 Killer SLI/ac offers four PCIex16 slots and a single PCIe x1 slot (offered electrical connectivity varies by CPU installed) for expansion duties, while a set of eight SATA ports are ready for you to plug your SATA devices into.

The board's bottom edge carries front-panel audio, LED headers, USB pins, and FAN headers for you to use. There is no dual-digit POST display, unfortunately.

The rear I/O panel offers USB ports in every flavor, a Clear CMOS button (good for pushing overclocks), Wi-Fi antennae, and your standard audio ports. There is also a dual-duty PS/2 port for your PS/2 mouse or keyboard. The LAN port here is powered via an Intel controller, none other than the Intel i219V.
