Overclocking
I had previously tested my CPU, so I know what its capabilities are. Now it becomes a test of what boards are capable of pushing the clocks it is capable of. Looking at the screenshot above, you can see the ASRock Z270 Extreme4 has no problems clocking up both the CPU and the RAM. 5 GHz on the CPU with 3866 MHz memory is nothing to scoff at.
It did not take much in order to get my chosen overclock enabled. I know what CPU voltage to use for my chosen 4.7 GHz - 5 GHz clocks, but the board needs to tune other voltages for the relatively high memory clocks, which it did without any hesitation.
Kaby Lake CPUs tend to run pretty hot, so in order to deal with that, I am running Turbo clocks, varied from 4.7 GHz to 5.0 GHz. My CPU is capable of more, but my cooling is not. This is part of the fun of having a new Intel CPU; you can set the multiplier based on workload in order to optimize temperatures and power consumption.
All performance testing is done at these overclocked settings.
