The ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero features an 8-phase VRM in a 7 + 1 configuration. No doublers are used; instead, two power stages in parallel for each phase double the current carrying capacity.


This ASP1405 controller supports a maximum of one SOC and seven Vcore phases. The ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero uses 90 A power stages from Texas Instruments. I was not able to find a data sheet for these stages, but they are most likely a new (or custom for ASUS) addition to TI's CSD954xxx line of smart power stages.

With a maximum theoretical Vcore output of 1,260 A, the ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero has more than enough for even the top spec AMD Ryzen 5950X under LN2.
