Download Assistant & Center
As we already mentioned, installing the Download Assistant application on a client PC will allow you to interact with Download Center via any Windows or Mac system. The Download Center app allows you to easily download and save files directly to your NAS, which has the NAS completely replace your download Station PC. Doing so also provides huge energy saving benefits since the AS-204TE consumes much less power than a normal PC. Download Center supports HTTP, FTP, and Bittorrent downloads, and you can also schedule your download tasks and limit download and upload speeds here.
Download Center also supports RSS subscriptions and downloads, so you can opt to have your NAS automatically download the contents of RSS feeds. The NAS will, based on your settings, regularly update RSS feeds to download files based on keywords you provide, which is ideal when it comes to effortlessly downloading your favorite TV shows.
μTorrent
µTorrent is probably the most famous program for bittorrent downloads. You will find it as one of many downloads in App Central.
This application transforms your NAS into a multimedia streaming server. Combine it with UPnP- or DLNA-compatible devices to browse and stream multimedia content stored on the NAS. This is a very interesting feature since most TVs nowadays support DLNA.
iTunes Server
iTunes Server allows users to stream media content that is stored on their NAS or any iTunes client on their network. This application also supports AirPlay and iOS Remote paring.
FTP Explorer
A NAS server is expected to have an FTP server application, but the FTP client application is rather uncommon on a NAS. One available application in APP Central is FTP Explorer, which, according to Asustor, is the first FTP client in the world designed exclusively for use on a NAS. This application allows users to connect to and browse any FTP site from within the ADM UI, offering a nice file-management interface for drag-and-drop file transfers with full resume functionality. Administrators and users can also use the FTP site-management function to store and manage information on all their favorite FTP sites.
SoundsGood
SoundsGood is a web music player that allows you to listen to all the music stored on your NAS via a web browser. It supports browsing by artist, album or folder, along with keyword searches to help you find the music you want to listen to quickly. The interface is easy to follow and allows you to create playlists. Additionally, SoundsGood supports ASUSTOR NAS’s multimedia playback interface, which allows you to connect speakers to the NAS via HDMI, USB, or audio jack to turn SoundsGood into your local music player.
Plex
Plex Media Server allows you to stream media to a wide range of devices, including smartphones, tables, notebooks, etc.
ASUSTOR Portal
Use ASUSTOR Portal to run XBMC (or Boxee for the 6 Series servers), which instantly turns the NAS into a multimedia player. You can also directly browse the Internet through its built-in Google Chrome browser, or log into ADM to manage the NAS, watch YouTube clips, or monitor live feeds through the Surveillance Center app. All of the above can directly be done on your TV and without the need of a client PC.
This is how ASUSTOR Portal will look on your TV.
