Administration Settings

Now that we have explored all the options of the Quick Start Guide, we can take a look at this NAS server's administrative settings, and they include pretty interesting options.

General Settings & Media Mode

The General tab allows you to change default HTTP/HTTPS ports, set the language, and configure an automatic log-out timer, or enable Media Mode, which will enhance the server's performance during multimedia playback. Media Mode should definitely be enabled before installing XBMC.

Network Settings

Among the most important settings are the network ones. Here, you can set the server name, which will identify the NAS to the network, default gateway, and all IP LAN port IDs. You can also create a link aggregation interface and set the Wi-Fi dongle's properties through the corresponding tab if you have it attached to the NAS.

VPN Settings

ADM now includes a VPN client through which the NAS can connect to VPN servers via PPTP or OpenVPN protocols. It also supports the creation of multiple VPN connection profiles, which gives users the ability to easily switch connections between different VPN networks.

Regional Options

Date, time, and time-zone settings can be set here.

Hardware Settings

The Hardware tab has many interesting things to configure, like the front LED indicators which can be turned off completely, or the ability to adjust their brightness. You can also enable/disable the system buzzer for various events, disable the reset button on the back, set the disk-hibernation time, and enable/disable EuP Mode. Attention must be given to the fact that enabling EuP will disable Sleep Mode, Auto Power Resume, Wake-on-Lan, and Power Scheduling Services.

Notification Settings

This NAS, like all advanced NAS servers, can send various notifications to the administrator through different means, reporting its state or important events.

ADM Defender

ADM includes a firewall and Network Defender application to effectively protect the NAS from network attacks.

ADM Update

ADM also includes Live Update, which you should enable if you want ADM to inform you of available updates.

Network Recycle Bin

You can enable Network Recycle Bin for extra protection against accidental data loss, but be careful with this option if you frequently erase large volumes of data.

Energy Saver Settings

Many energy-saving options can be found here. The Wake-On-Lan (WOL) feature can't be enabled if you have EuP enabled.

Factory Default

This option should be used carefully since it defaults the NAS, which will cause all stored data on its installed disks and your settings to be erased after system initialization.

Registration Options

You must obtain an Asustor ID—it is free—in order to access some of the NAS server's advanced features, like Cloud Connect or its application download services.
