The AVerMedia Mingle Bar is supported by the AVerMedia Connect Windows/macOS application used to configure the camera. It's a fairly basic but functional app, split into several sections: Home, Video Bar, Device Management, Support, and Settings. The important ones are Video Bar and Device Management, as that's where you'll control the Mingle Bar.
The Video Bar menu shows a preview of the camera's video signal and contains the toggles for features like AI Framing and AI Noise Reduction. More on them in the performance section of this review. Here you can also flip the picture horizontally or vertically and adjust the anti-flicker frequency (50 or 60 Hz).
The Color Adjustment submenu contains five picture filters (Original, Bright, Warm, Cool, Dramatic), which I didn't find particularly useful, as well as various sliders: white balance gain, brightness, contrast, hue, saturation, and sharpness. The white balance can adjust itself automatically, too – that's what the White Balance toggle is used for. For the most natural picture quality, you're best off leaving everything on default, with the picture filter set to Original. In some specific cases (intensively blue or red backgrounds), you're probably better off adjusting the white balance manually.
The Exposure menu offers four options: Auto Exposure, Manual Exposure, Face Exposure, and High Dynamic Range. The first two are self-explanatory. Face Exposure aims to enhance the exposure of faces, which can come in handy when the Mingle Bar is used indoors, especially in darker environments. High Dynamic Range (HDR) is designed for high-contrast environments and scenarios, such as having a window directly behind the person speaking. Please check the performance section of this review to see all four exposure modes in action.
The Device Management menu lets you do a factory reset of the device, as well as update its firmware.
