Driver Features

The driver supplied with the card includes all you might need to get started with the card. Besides the main driver and configuration utility Bigfoot Networks supplies this card with both the FNTorrent and FN Firewall application.

The main driver and configuration utility are packed with special features never seen before. If you know a lot about networking technology there is no limit as to what you can get this card to do. Through my two weeks of testing this card I found that the standard optimized configuration was the best performing. I tried increasing or decreasing some of the values trying every combination, but I found that even though you can shave off some latency by manipulating these values it had a tendency to either increase stuttering or the general latency. This means that the people behind KillerNIC did an excellent job trimming the different latencies so that the end user gets a good experience even without altering any settings.

This little menu pops up if you right click the tray icon. In this little easy to use menu you can define whether you want the card optimized for FNA applications or gaming. Besides launching the Killer Configuration utility you can also start the FNA Firewall and the FN Torrent client which I will test later on in the review.

LLR

The "Lag and Latency Reduction" features can be tweaked via the "Killer Configuration utility".

All of these settings are only visible if you have set the driver mode to "advanced". I found that it was best to leave all of the settings as default "Optimized". By setting the driver to "Normal" mode you can only see two tabs ("Main" and "About"). In the main tab there is a button labeled Optimize, the settings found via using this feature were perfect for my system setup.

FNA

At the moment only two FNA applications are fully developed although I'm sure that there are many more on the way.

Above you can see how the FN Torrent program looks. Even though it lacks several "Intermediate user" features it's still worth using because it allows you to download torrents even while gaming without experiencing any stuttering.

The FNA Firewall is really simple and functions just like any other firewall on the market today. It's easy to manage exceptions and blocks. The only problem that I encountered with it was that it failed to load once during system startup. I don't know why this error occurred, but I guess there is a small error in the load sequence or an issue with my PC.
