Disassembly

Disassembly of the Cherry MX Board 6.0 is extremely simple provided you have a Torx T6 driver around. There are several small screws on the back, including one under the warranty logo sticker that has to be pierced to gain access. Even if you try to remove the sticker carefully, it will leave behind a tell-tale sign, so there is no getting around it. You will void the warranty if you disassemble the keyboard without prior approval of some kind from Cherry. Once done, the bottom plastic case panel can be separated from the rest of the keyboard.

There is an internal USB connector that needs to be dislodged to fully separate the two pieces, following which we see that Cherry has used a plate-mounted PCB here with the aluminum frame acting as the plate as well. The PCB is green in color and has a QC sticker on it, which does provide some form of reassurance. On the flip side, the solder quality is pretty poor, with the solder points terminating every which way. Some get way too close to each other for my comfort too. To be fair, the keyboard was perfectly ok, and I would have never noticed it if I had not removed the bottom panel, but solder quality would still merit improvement. The main components, including the microcontroller, are all on the other side of the PCB; however, and I am not planning to de-solder everything to take a look at them. We can see some resistors on the underside, and as per usual, the PCB has multiple layers.

Before we move on, be advised that disassembly will void the warranty and that TechPowerUp is not liable for any damages incurred if you decided to go ahead and do so anyway.
