Introduction

Last year, Cooler Master released two excellent gaming headsets, the $80 analogue MH751 (reviewed here) and its USB variant, the $100 MH752 (reviewed here). Both were and still are great choices in their respective price brackets. That, however, didn't stop Cooler Master from coming up with a brand-new gaming headset lineup for 2020, this time consisting of three products: the analogue MH630 ($59/€59), USB-powered MH650 ($79/€79), and wireless MH670 ($109/€109). This review will focus on the Cooler Master MH650, which is the only USB gaming headset in the new lineup. You can read the review of the MH630 here, and the MH670 is reviewed here.

All three new headsets share a lot of features: They're based on the same design, offer the same detachable microphone, and have nearly identical controls. In theory, choosing between them comes down to your personal preference, and the size of your budget, of course. If you have a decent sound card and aren't interested in going wireless, you should be looking at the MH630. In case your sound card is underpowered, has problems with microphone input and any other issue of that sort, the USB-powered MH650 is the obvious choice. Finally, if going wireless is what you're after, the MH670 is what you'll naturally be interested in. In this review we'll examine the characteristics and performance of the USB-powered MH650. It's priced at $79/€79, which is in line with some brand-name competitors, such as the Corsair Void Pro RGB USB, and less expensive than most others (SteelSeries Arctis 5, HyperX Cloud Alpha S, and Logitech Pro Gaming Headset, to name a few).
