A Closer Look
Since this is Corsair's first gaming chair, we expected it to be a high-end product. To be honest, there is nothing innovative about the design, and it seems as though Corsair is mostly targeting mainstream users with this product, rather than the high-end enthusiast ones. In order to sell huge quantities of the T1 Race gaming chair, Corsair managed to combine a common design with a nice texture, and did manage to do so at half the price of other gaming chairs. Even so, we expect Corsair's next gaming chair to be more innovative and high-end.
The chair's color is mainly black; however, the yellow details are the ones that seal the impression this chair makes. We can't imagine this chair in an office environment with these colors, though. This color combination is definitely for gaming or home environments. The only thing missing from the T1 Race is the RGB lighting! Finally, there's more than one logo to remind us of this chair's brand.
The first logo is at the front, on the headrest; a large but hardly distinguishable, embedded Corsair name and logo.
A large white-stitched combination of both the logo and the company's name appears on the rear of the headrest. A black textile tag is also there, with the company's name and logo in a white font.
On the right of the sitting area and under the backrest's lever is a barely distinguishable engraving with Corsair's name and logo.
The chair's dimensions are adjustable, with its seat's height ranging from 42-32 cm and the backrest being 95 cm tall and 56 cm wide.
The seating and backrest areas have a solid steel frame with dense foam cushions. The entire area you will get in touch with - the seat and backrest - is covered by PU leather with a yellow diamond stitching pattern. Two yellow stripes with a 3D printing resembling carbon fiber are running alongside the sitting area. The yellow stripes are on the backrest as well, while another wider yellow stripe is on the headrest.
PU leather is commonly used for various furniture items since it allows for spills and other unwanted stuff to easily be cleaned off. If well maintained, faux leather can last for ages, and we should not forget its lower manufacturing cost, of course, which is its major advantage. Nonetheless, if PU leather or any other type of "fake" leather is used instead of the real thing, it had better be proven to be of good quality to make sure it keeps up well over the long haul.
Usage Experience
We used the chair for an extensive period of time only to find out that sweating can occur if PU leather directly touches the skin (e.g. if you wear shorts). Thankfully, both grease from your hair and sweat can easily be cleaned off with a wet tissue. Ambient temperatures obviously play a major part since there are no pores on the upholstery; the chair's seat and back cover aren't made out of a very breathable material mix. Should you have to exert yourself to the point of having to sweat, make sure to wear clothes which at least cover your legs and back.
We interviewed more than three users who extensively tried out the T1 Race chair and asked for their feedback, and they all had a different opinion! The sitting and backrest areas seem to be somewhere in the middle of soft and hard. It also seems as though some people prefer narrower sitting areas while others like wider ones. Overall, the T1 Race gaming chair is shorter in dimensions than other chairs, making it easier to fit in small gaming areas. The T1 Race can endure a bodyweight of up to 120 kg, which might still be slightly below ideal as some hardcore gamers tend to be heavier. This chair should in our opinion have a higher load limit.
