Software
The software, which is called the Cougar UIX™ System, is pretty easy to learn to use, but there are some parts of it that made me scratch my head. One thing is for sure: it has a lot of customization options. You can create a number of different profiles and macros, and can also import and export them if you would like to. This software has quite a rare macro function, as you can actually record mouse movement with it.
The Performance tab has the main sensor options, but you can also choose your language here.
On my system, the software used 77.7 MB disk space and ate up around 65 MB of memory while running in the background. If you feel like it, you can delete it after setting everything up because the mouse saves all settings to the 512 KB on-board memory.
Lighting
Lots and lots of options to choose from! Steady lighting, breathing, color cycle, and an effect that is called "flow". The lighting for the scroll wheel and the Cougar logo at the back can be set up individually. You can also assign different lighting modes to different CPI steps. Of course, if you want, you can set the same CPI value to all of them and only change the lighting by pressing the CPI changer, or you can just turn everything off.
My camera cannot really catch how it looks in real life, but you can get an idea by watching this video:
