Cubitek HPTX-Tank Review

Value & Conclusion

  • The Cubitek HPTX-Tank is available for a mere 199 €. This means that the all-aluminum chassis is half as expensive as the Lian Li PC-V2120.
  • Excellent price
  • HPTX capable
  • All Aluminum
  • Can hold any hardware you may throw at it
  • Rubber mounted HDDs
  • Compartment for 2x 2.5 inch drives
  • Four red LED fans included
  • Plenty of openings in mainboard tray for cable management
  • Dust filters below the metal mesh parts
  • Support beam for expansion cards
  • Elaborate design in front
  • USB 3.0 up top
  • Not the uncompromising quality of the V2120
  • No USB 2.0 ports
  • Fans loud
  • 2.5 inch bays hard to reach
  • Dust filter on PSU bay inadequate
  • Recessed power & reset buttons
  • Too much lighting for some
Lian Li may have set the standard in terms of pricing, but Cubitek has clearly shown, that there is no need to go out and spend 400 € or more on a case with HPTX compatibility. Cubitek manages to impress by delivering an all aluminum chassis of this size at a never before seen price point, but following the classic "you get what you pay for" the quality of the HPTX-Tank cannot be compared to the uncompromising approach of the V2120. That said, the HPTX-Tank is by no means a bad chassis - on the contrary. Cubitek has kept things simple and effective: no screw-less system for the ODD bays, no fancy compartments, no unusual engineering for a case of this size. In turn the case has obvious features we have seen on many Lian Li cases, so it should be clear where the inspiration of some of these ideas have been taken from.

The biggest upside of the Tank series is certainly its price. While you have to make some sacrifices, the HPTX-Tank remains a very capable chassis. The only deal breaker could be the set of loud fans. It remains to be seen what Cubitek does about that in future shipments of the chassis. So there you have it. Cubitek has managed to deliver an HPTX chassis at ATX pricing so that you may go and spend your hard earned money on other things - like a 600 Dollar mainboard.
