Introduction

Das Keyboard Logo

Das Keyboard is a US-based keyboard brand founded in 2005 and has made a name for itself over the years for its products, including the Keyboard 4 Professional we covered over five years ago. It was a flagship keyboard at the time, surrounded by burgeoning RGB backlighting everywhere else and instead opted to go with its trademark large volume wheel and dedicated media playback buttons on a thick aluminium frame for a classy look. Then came the Keyboard 5Q the following year that tried a lot, including with per-key RGB backlighting but for a novel IoT application whereby you would get notifications for various items—think weather, calendar entries, emails etc—on your keyboard via specific keys lighting up. It was an interesting idea that unfortunately never had extensive support for the cloud-connected features from both Das and the user base to where it didn't really take off. Between this and the short-lived Division Zero gaming brand, Das Keyboard had to try something different. Perhaps an update to the previously working formula with features that the keyboard community was asking for.

It has been four years since the Das Keyboard 5Q and the keyboard market has changed drastically in the time since. So when the company announced its Keyboard 6 Professional a few weeks ago I was intrigued to see how the latest and greatest from Das Keyboard would be. The design language continues to remind everyone this is a Das Keyboard first and foremost, down to the use of the large volume wheel which now happens to be in fashion for enthusiast mechanical keyboards. There is also backlighting here, albeit white only on all the keys. We'll go through the new Das Keyboard 6 Professional in our review today—both inside and out—beginning with a look at the product specifications in the table below. Thanks to Das Keyboard for loaning a review unit to TechPowerUp!
