Disassembly

Disassembly of the DeepCool KG722 is extremely simple because of the single-piece case design, with all seven Phillips head screws holding the plate and PCB piece in place. Simply remove certain specific keycaps as seen above, and a precision screwdriver will be handy here. There are no internal cables to worry about with the USB port placed on the PCB itself, and the ABS case has a cutout to accommodate it. This is an injection-molded case without any foam filling to dampen the typing sound, so enterprising customers might want to add foam filling themselves.

The PCB is black, and the switches are soldered in place, so separating the plate from the PCB for further customization and easier access to the stabilizers is not trivial. Solder quality is decent, and I was surprised to see a foam sheet between the plate and PCB after all, which should help get around the otherwise empty case. Marking on the side indicates this might well be a rebranded FL-eSports K212 down to the same default keys, which is not surprising given DeepCool isn't really known for keyboards. There are no dedicated hardware LED drivers, with a Nuvoton NUC121SC2AE 32-bit ARM® Cortex®-M0 USB microcontroller handling all functionality. All the components, including the switches, SMD RGB LEDs, and capacitors, are soldered to a multi-layered PCB.

Before we move on, be advised that disassembly may void the warranty and that TechPowerUp is not liable for any damages incurred if you decide to go ahead and do so anyway.
