Design and Ergonomics
When it comes to aesthetics, the most attractive aspect of the EIZO FlexScan EV2785 is its narrow bezels. The frame of the panel measures in at 1 mm, and there's only an additional 6 mm of black border separating it from the panel itself. That can be compared to the bezels of some of the best gaming monitors on the market. On these, the bezels need to be thin to make them less apparent in multi-monitor setups. In case of this monitor, it wasn't necessary, but EIZO obviously wanted (and successfully managed) to achieve a certain feeling of luxury. Thin bezels are also less distracting in everyday use. You can almost forget that they're there, which will leave you with an impression that the picture is floating in mid-air.
The metal base is covered in plastic. Dark, matte plastic works well in business environments, but I'd still prefer EIZO using metal to cover the base—that would truly make the FlexScan EV2785 stand out in anyone's office.
The base is perfectly stable and capable of swiveling the screen almost a full 360°. If you want to show something on your screen to someone sitting across from you, you'll be able to do so with a single movement of your hand.
Same goes for the stand. It's well made and allows us to adjust the screen pretty much any way we'd like, but it doesn't look nearly as impressive as the screen and its bezels.
The panel can be adjusted in height. When pushed all the way down, the distance between the screen's bottom edge and the table's surface is 2 cm, which has the screen almost touch the base. If you pull it all the way up, said distance goes up to almost 20 cm. Both hands need to be used to adjust the height of the screen, but once you put it at a desired height, it won't budge from that position when you don't want it to.
The angle the screen can be tilted in ranges from -5° to 35°, which is somewhat standard. Both hands are again needed to adjust the tilt, but the entire range of motion is fairly smooth.
The stand allows for the screen to be pivoted by 90°. When you return it to landscape mode, the panel will be slightly slanted, and you'll have to center it by hand. That isn't unusual, though; it's what happens with most pivotable monitors.
As far as the built-in cable management goes, the EIZO FlexScan EV2785 offers two options. You can either use the factory built-in cable clip or the supplied plastic cable cover, which can be installed after removing the clip. The installation is simple and can be done in a matter of seconds. Which one you'll opt for comes down to how much you care about cable management. If you want the cables to hardly be visible, the cable cover is the way to go.
The monitor can be mounted on a desk arm or wall stand by simply removing the entire stand and affixing the screen to any standard VESA 100x100 mount.
