Packaging
There are no fancy graphics on the box—only the model description in large font at the front and the really small Platinum efficiency badge in the bottom-left corner. The box also features a handle on top, which will help you lug it around.
One of two sides only has EVGA's logo while there is a list of the company's achievements on the other, though none of those relate to their PSU products.
A clear view of the black plastic handle. The top also has a label with the unit's part and serial numbers.
The rear of the box holds the most interesting information. There is a list of the unit's features and available connectors, each, a scheme describing the fan's operation in both normal and ECO Mode, the power specifications table, and three photos of the PSU's APFC caps, the fan, and the fully modular PCB.
Contents
The PSU is well-protected by two pieces of packing foam and comes in a black bag. Next to it reside the bundled accessories.
The bundle includes a nylon pouch for all unused modular cables, an AC power cord, some Velcro straps, a set of fixing bolts, and the user's manual.
Exterior
The P2-1000's exterior is identical to that of the G2 units, with the only difference of the small switch for its semi-passive (ECO) operation at the front. Contrary to Super Flower, EVGA was wise enough to add a sticker that explains how the switch operates, so you won't have to use the trial and error method. The specifications label is installed on the side, and the fully modular panel with its numerous sockets is in the rear.
For some people, there are serviceable components inside, but with a whopping ten year warranty, even them will follow EVGA's advice.
The finish is very good since it is matte and scratch/fingerprint resistant, while the fan grill is actually curved into the casing. Finally, the dimensions are large, probably larger than necessary for a unit of this capacity, but Super Flower used the same casing for both the 1 kW and 1.3 kW unit to save on cost.
All cables are fully sleeved, and every cable but the PCIe ones are stealth. The latter use a red sleeving and red wires to distinguish themselves from the rest. This scheme will appeal to some and not so much to others. We would have liked all cables to be of the same color.
Sleeving is of acceptable quality, but it surely isn't among the nicest we have ever seen. Something natural since nice quality sleeving takes a lot of work, which increases production cost and retail price a lot.
Plenty of cables equip this unit, but EVGA thankfully provides a pouch you can store all unused cables in.
