Initial Setup
Installing memory into a system these days is pretty uneventful, but I noticed that DDR4 does take a fair bit more force to be installed, and taking a moment just to make sure the sticks are fitted properly into the slot is a worthwhile endeavor. The heatspreader is only slightly higher than the DIMM's PCB, so they aren't so large as to cause issues with aftermarket cooling in most situations.
The actual DIMM's height is just under 41 mm, or just over 40 mm, which depends on how you look at it. I do believe that these sticks are rated at 40 mm by G.Skill. An additional fraction of a millimeter in height could possible be due to variances in how the DIMM is assembled.
Installed into my MSI Z170A GAMING M7, the G.Skill Ripjaws V look great, the white logo up top standing out from against the black very effectively. I also like that the label with the timings and such is hidden slightly by facing the CPU socket. Some sticks in the past have had their labels facing the other way, which ruins the look in my books, especially when you take pictures like I do!
