Variable Rate Shading

Variable Rate Shading promises to improve framerates without affecting image quality significantly. It works by rendering individual nearby pixels that are of a very similar color as one bigger chunk of pixels in a single color.

If you take a look at the screenshots below, the quality loss is surprisingly low. The only spots where you can noticeably see a difference when zoomed in are the red lines of the snipers and similarly straight lines of high contrast. No idea why the overall brightness of the screenshots is so different, in-game it's not noticeable.

FPS gain is decent: 10% going from "off" to "on", and another 5% by switching to the "performance" VRS setting, which is more aggressive.
