CPU Performance Results

We spent a couple of weeks with the Gigabyte G1.Sniper M3 before beginning our performance testing, running various configurations and CPUs, and checking hardware compatibility. We verified our power consumption numbers using various different power supplies, and played a few hours of games with some members of the TPU community to get an overall feel for the board and to verify stability. Once completed, we tore down the system, mounted our Noctua cooler and put the board through the paces.

SuperPi

SuperPI serves as our memory-focused benchmark, being highly single-threaded. Here the Gigabyte G1.Sniper M3 takes fourth place, a great result considering that the top result was attained with a custom Turbo profile!

wPrime

wPrime is much more CPU-focused, but memory plays its role as well. Here the Gigabyte G1.Sniper M3 takes the third place for Intel Z77 Express-based products.

WinRAR

Part of our motherboard benchmarking suite is the built-in benchmark that is part of the WinRAR software suite. Yet again, the G1.Sniper M3 takes third place for Intel Z77 Express products.

AIDA64

We employed AIDA64's memory bench to highlight memory bandwidth. We isolate the write performance metric as it serves as a good indicator of overall memory performance. Memory performance is a bit different than the rest of the results, and a bit low, but nothing that is out of place.

HandBrake Encoding

Handbrake is used for encoding testing, and here I found the Gigabyte G1.Sniper M3 to be a bit under-performing. I already noticed lower memory performance, which accounts for some of this results, but there must be something else here that is preventing it from scoring higher.

CineBench Encoding

In Cinebench, the Gigabyte G1.Sniper M3 again put out very good results, with a few Intel Z77 Express-based products out-performing it in the Intel Z77 Express grouping, which is no surprise considering that the ASUS Maximus V Gene uses its own custom Turbo profile rather than the default Intel Turbo profile that the Gigabyte G1.Sniper M3 uses. Compared to other boards, the results are right in line with with what I had expected. The real comparison here will be made in the overclocking section, of course.
