Value and Conclusion

  • The Gigabyte M34WQ is available online for $500. Due to very high demand, it is at times unavailable but usually gets restocked quickly.
  • Very good overall picture quality, especially after calibration
  • Excellent viewing angles
  • Great reflection handling and high brightness make it suitable for even bright rooms
  • Fantastic user experience as an ultrawide 34-inch panel for both gaming and multitasking
  • Great gaming performance: low input lag, 144 Hz refresh rate, and good motion handling
  • Excellent ergonomics
  • Integrated KVM switch
  • USB Type-C connectivity
  • Intuitive 4-way joystick
  • PiP and PbP support
  • USB Type-C interface delivers only 15 W of power
  • Some backlight issues
  • Lackluster HDR experience
  • Buggy OSD Sidekick Windows app
  • Completely flat 34-inch ultrawide panel takes some getting used to, especially when switching from a curved display
The Gigabyte M34WQ is an excellent 34-inch ultrawide gaming monitor that doubles as a very capable productivity monitor thanks to the integrated KVM switch, USB-C connectivity, and ultrawide panel, which makes it a multitasking beast. It is equipped with a capable IPS panel, giving it exceptionally wide viewing angles, good color performance, and great motion handling backed by the neatly integrated overdrive technology.

The panel has some limitations, such as the relatively low static contrast ratio, which results in grayish blacks when viewed in a dark room, and my sample also displayed slight issues with the backlight implementation, although those are nearly impossible to spot in everyday usage or while gaming.

Whoever ends up buying the Gigabyte M34WQ is bound to love it because of its gaming capabilities, namely the 144 Hz refresh rate, full adaptive synchronization support for AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards, and low input lag, which sits at around 10 milliseconds on average and regularly dips down to 6 ms. Add the aforementioned excellent motion handling with the Picture Quality overdrive setting activated and what you get is a monitor that will fully immerse you in your favorite titles while impressing with the smoothness and fluidity of the action it delivers.

There are other things to like too, such as the excellent ergonomics, intuitive controls, feature-rich OSD, and comprehensive Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture support. The built-in KVM switch lets you connect two computers to the Gigabyte M34WQ and switch between them seamlessly with a press of a single button. That feature alone is something you won't get on other gaming monitors, as most of them don't bother with productivity-focused features.

I only wish Gigabyte would do something about their OSD Sidekick Windows app, which is still a buggy mess, and they should improve the power output of the USB Type-C interface, which is currently limited to a mere 15 W. Other than that, the M34WQ is a good performer and of good value for the $500 asking price.
