Once in the OS, I noticed that power saving features were enabled, and that the Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming G1 used less voltage on the CPU than other boards I have tested so far. Everything worked well, including getting the software and drivers on the driver disc installed. I did notice that CPU-Z does not report CPU voltage correctly on the Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming G1.
Automated Overclocking
Gigabyte's automated overclocking needs a lot of work. To try it out, load up EasyTune and click the "auto" button, which will have a warning about what you are about to do pop up. A 30 second warning, it will begin its testing afterward, starting at 4500 MHz.
After running a few tests, the software settled on a 4400 MHz OC, and left the memory speeds in default. ON closer inspection, I realized that the Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming G1 didn't even adjust the voltage! What a waste of time!
This is a failure in my books. No voltage adjustment, no XMP enabling; what kind of overclock is that? A garbage OC, for sure! Automated overclocking is a complete failure.
