Ripple Measurements
You will see the ripple levels that we measured on the main rails of the AGD-750 in the following table. The limits are, according to the ATX specification, 120 mV (+12V) and 50 mV (5V, 3.3V, and 5VSB).
Ripple Measurements High Power AGD-750 |

Test | 12 V | 5 V | 3.3 V | 5VSB | Pass/Fail |
20% Load | 24.3 mV | 15.3 mV | 14.5 mV | 15.3 mV | Pass |
40% Load | 33.7 mV | 20.9 mV | 19.2 mV | 25.0 mV | Pass |
50% Load | 28.7 mV | 24.1 mV | 21.8 mV | 26.7 mV | Pass |
60% Load | 32.0 mV | 26.0 mV | 25.9 mV | 27.4 mV | Pass |
80% Load | 37.3 mV | 32.2 mV | 31.8 mV | 31.6 mV | Pass |
100% Load | 39.7 mV | 38.5 mV | 37.1 mV | 35.9 mV | Pass |
110% Load | 43.1 mV | 41.6 mV | 40.0 mV | 37.0 mV | Pass |
Crossload 1 | 32.0 mV | 20.7 mV | 20.9 mV | 8.4 mV | Pass |
Crossload 2 | 35.8 mV | 36.1 mV | 33.3 mV | 29.7 mV | Pass |
Ripple suppression on the +12V rail is good enough, although we expect better results from PSUs of this price range. Things aren't so good on the minor rails since all readings at full load were close to 40 mV. The limit is, as previously stated, relative close at 50 mV. The unit's very good cap choice apparently didn't help much here, and the design needs some improvements in order to provide lower ripple. High Power should look into this matter more carefully because it is a shame for such a good unit to fall behind the competition in this crucial area. To us, ripple is probably the most important factor in a PSU's performance.
Ripple at Full Load
You can see the AC ripple and noise that the main rails registered (+12V, 5V, 3.3V, and 5VSB) in the following oscilloscope screenshots. The bigger the fluctuations on the oscilloscope's screen, the bigger the ripple/noise. For all measurements, we set 0.01 V/Div (each vertical division/box equals 0.01 V) as standard.
