Display

The touchscreen is essentially unlike I have ever seen built into a case. While there were plenty of HTPC enclosures in in the past decade or so, that included a built-in display, the sheer pixel density and quality of this 14" one inside the Y70 Touch is in a different league. Yes, it has a unique resolution of 1100 x 3840 pixels, but that essentially means that you are getting one half of what equates to a 17" 4K screen. It shows up sideways in Windows by default, but you can easily set it up correctly.

The Nexus software looks gorgeous on here as well & thanks to the touch screen you can act on any of these quickly and easily. This means you could dive into any of the widgets or change the color of your RGB lighting with your fingertips. The only downside with a touchscreen is the fact that Windows will consider it a mouse click. This means that every time you touch the screen you then have to grab your mouse and move it all the way over to your main screen again. However, you can download tools like Touch Mouse Tools that could solve this issue for you. We also wanted to see what it would look like to game on this screen - it is an IPS display connected with DisplayPort after all. We are happy to report, that you can play Doom at full screen.

Nexus App

The Nexus App is a widget based software tool which provides you with the ability to gain insights into your CPU, GPU, memory or storage state, but also manages to be one, universal interface for all your ARGB components. Even the ones which a closed ecosystem like iCUE or external like Philips Hue can be controlled using the application. It is pretty straight forward and works well. HYTE even sprinkled a few little gimmicks into it. From a loading screen that sports a Star Wars reference of "Executing Order 66" to a GIF of Homer Simpson to animate you to volunteer bug reports. Nexus also includes several themes you can pick from.

That said, while the app feels solid and functions well, It isn't the prettiest one in town. I am sure HYTE will keep working on it as time moves on and considering how far they have come already, it will be interesting to see how it matures. But, being a fully fledged screen, you are really free to use whatever app you like on it.
