In Win 503 Review

A Closer Look - Inside

Simply remove the two thumbscrews holding each side panel in place to access the interior. The interior is all-black to complement the exterior, with a very traditional layout. In Win also cut down on the use of metal a bit, which becomes obvious once you look at the motherboard panel's back as it does not extend all the way to the bottom. While you only have around 18-19 mm of space to route cables at most, the extruded side panel will give you another 10 mm to work with. While more than enough, there will be some areas right behind the motherboard with only around around 12-14 mm of space.

The front may be taken off quite easily because In Win used clips on one and hooks on the other side. Behind the cover are two removable dust filters to protect each intake fan from dirt and grime. In Win equipped one of these with a cooling unit for a total tally of two 120 mm fans out of the box. You may install another 120 mm fan onto the floor, but only if your PSU is no longer than 170 mm. Alternatively, there are mounting holes for a 2.5" HDD, which is certainly a much more attractive use of space.

You will find four hard-drive trays in the bottom of the front. These may either hold 2.5'' or 3.5" hard drives, and a single 2.5" HDD placement possibility has been put on top of these trays. Look closely and it also becomes apparent that the chassis's tooling intends for three more 3.5" trays to be placed there, but In Win simply removed the side without included any trays, which is fine as most people won't require more than six hard-drive-mounts. You will find three 5.25" drive bays in the very top, of which one is externally accessible; it features a plastic locking mechanism that most likely will not hold the drive bay as well as a set of traditional screws. The bottom two 5.25" units could also hold a few more hard drives so long as you have the right adapters on hand.

Things in the rear are much more traditional as the PSU bay is just what you would expect it to be. Above it are the seven expansion slots In Win topped off with a clear 120 mm exhaust fan with red LEDs. The two water-cooling openings are also here should you want to install an external water-cooling unit. In Win offered fans with Molex connectors in the past, so it is great to see 3-pin connectors with a pass-through component, which allows you to chain fans together in order to use a single motherboard header to power them all.

Every cable within the In Win 503 is of the traditional variety, with everything except the case button and LED leads sleeved in black. While this is a definitive improvement over past In Win experiences, all-black or dark sleeving would have been nice since those In Win supplied are quite the eyesore to some—especially with the large window in tow.
