USB 3.0
Mach Xtreme advertised a read performance of up to 125 MB/s while it should manage up to 80 MB/s when writing files. Interestingly enough both HDTach and HDTune report a read performance well beyond what Mach Xtreme has set forth for the drive. In both cases the applications report almost 180 MB/s. Such a performance is extremely unlikely, as Mach Xtreme would have advertised these and marketed the drive completely different with such a performance. Write performance on the other hand seems to be correct, as the drive almost hits 80 MB/s in HDTach, but the speed varies greatly, thus it averages out at just below 50 MB/s.
Running the stick through ATTO we much more believable results. Read speed maxes out at just over 133 MB/s when reading larger files and write performance seems to be just as erratic as in HDTach, but also maxes out at just below 80 MB/s.
USB 2.0
When the FX drive is connected to a traditional USB 2.0 interface, the unit maxes out at 34.8 MB/s average read and a very solid 30.7 MB/s. This is very close to the maximum real world performance one can expect to get from USB 2.0.
ATTO shows us a very similar picture, as the HDTach performance line is very straight the average is equivalent to the maximum speed at USB 2.0. So even with this connectivity, the Mach Xtreme FX performs great.
