Introduction

A few months ago the MONTECH TITAN GOLD 1000 W performed admirably in our testing, making the TITAN PLA 1000 W—the higher-specced successor to the TITAN GOLD—a very welcome guest in our test lab. Like the TITAN GOLD series, the TITAN PLA comes in four different wattages: 750, 850, 1000 and 1200 W. Besides the higher efficiency rating, the PLA series has one aesthetic difference from the TITAN GOLD series that might be important to some—it only comes in white.

The TITAN PLA series is positioned in the enthusiast category. With a Platinum efficiency rating, compatibility with the latest ATX 3.1 and PCIe 5.1 standards, a 10-year warranty, and a retail price of $199, it is not typically aimed at the average consumer. Even the color list of "white only" adds to the impression. Because of that we really need to make sure that it is worth your investment.

In our previous review I have half-jokingly complained about the somewhat confusing usage of two words that can be referred to as efficiency levels of the power supply. So I'm glad to see that it has been somewhat addressed in this series. And if MONTECH decides to release a Titanium efficiency level PSU, then, well, the name tag can be even shorter. But for now, we'll focus our full attention to the TITAN PLA 1000 W and its specifications.
