Value & Conclusion

  • The MP4Nation Brainwavz HM5 sells for $129.50!
  • Excellent price-to-performance ratio
  • Extensive bundle
  • Closed-back design
  • Two great cables
  • Durable
  • User-replaceable cable
  • A little more bass
  • More height under its pads
  • Clamping pressure without having to stretch the pads out
Brainwavz absolutely nailed it with the HM5. Its combination of features, accessories, and sound quality is hard to find. The HM5 does not really stick out from the crowd, but it does everything well and suffers from very few nuisances as the only one worth talking about is its slightly tame bass. Otherwise, it is so close to perfect that it should be on anyone's shortlist for a set of closed headphones for use on the go. The build quality is really good for the price, and the fact that you get two cables and a spare set of pads is incredibly neat since they usually wear out before a set of headphones does.

We did have to stretch the headband a tad, but that goes for a lot of other headphones as well. In the long, I would probably play around with some different pads as the ones that come with the HM5 leave some things to be desired if you have ever tried some of the newer designs by various makers.

The general build quality is amazing and the value for your money is just mind blowing to these ears.
