A look Inside
To access any user-swappable components, you will need to do some disassembly because MSI did not include access hatches on the Apache Pro GE72VR. First, remove the plastic hinge cap. Be gentle since you do not want to break the plastic clips. Next, remove the screws on the bottom. Keep in mind that doing so will technically void your warranty, but that's just a technicality. With the screws removed, the optical drive can now be carefully pulled out.
Now, carefully lift up the plastic shell and work your way toward the other side. Once fully removed, you will have complete access to the system's hardware.
The battery can be removed. Two RAM slots are available. These are populated by two 8 GB 2133MHz DDR4 SO-DIMMs from SK Hynix. The harddrive is a 1TB HGST 7200RPM model, while the SSD is an M.2 based Kingston RBU-sns8152s3256GG5. It appears to be a new model as the only M.2 models Kingston currently has available are 240GB units. Finally, the optical drive makes use of a slim-line SATA connector for those who would replace it with another HDD or SSD.
