The Evil Within 2 is the second addition to the third-person survival horror series. The game's plot advances the events of the pilot by three years, in which our protagonist is told that his daughter he thought was lost is in fact alive in a dangerous facility she has to be rescued from.
Unlike its id Tech 5-powered predecessor, The Evil Within is powered by the STEM engine, its customized derivative, which seems to be based on a mix of id Tech 5 and id Tech 6. The world is built upon Megatextures, which comes with a physics-based shaders model.
