Value & Conclusion

  • The NOX Coolbay HX should set you back around 100 €. Expect to see a similar price tag for the APEX 700W
  • Very nice and clean look
  • Simple but effective interior layout
  • Great paint job inside & out
  • Two 200 mm fans included
  • Top 200 mm fan speed can be adjusted
  • Other case fans very quiet
  • Useful set of features
  • Cable routing made easy
  • Can take up to nine 5.25" devices
  • Hard drive cage may be removed
  • Very nice lighting accents
  • Unique & high quality feet
  • Spacious for a mid-tower
  • Construction quality could be a bit better
  • Mainboard stand-off "bumps" may cause shorts - tape them off!
  • Open, air vent design prone to let a lot of dust in
  • Top 200 mm fan not the quietest
  • Only available in black and with window
  • A tad bit pricey
The NOX Coolbay HX will no doubt remind everyone of the Antec 900. Sure, the general layout is similar and the top 200 mm fan seems to be almost the same as well, but the Coolbay HX can score where the aging Antec 900 cannot. The second 200 mm side fan is a great addition to the case and does not only look well, but should also keep the interior of the case much cooler than a smaller such unit. The chassis is also a bit larger than traditional mid-tower cases, with about an inch of extra headroom above the mainboard. The all black paint job looks great and is of very good quality. The only gripe I have is the overall build quality. The steel seems a bit thin and the plastic aspects of the case seem to feel a bit flimsy. Nonetheless the NOX Coolbay HX can score with well known and useful features without threading into unknown territory and trying to innovate anything. The chassis is the perfect example for "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". That said, the Coolbay HX should be a very useful case for anyone looking for great cooling in a relatively compact package at a price point that won't break the bank.
