Synthetic Benchmarks
3DMark 2003
3DMark 2003 may show its age but there is still a healthy lead of the GeForce 7950 GX2 over the 7900 GTX. The 7950 GX2 is around 30% faster at low resolutions with no AA/AF enabled. The trend continues into the higher resolutions even at 1920x1200 as long as no AA/AF is enabled.
As soon as 8xAF and 8xS AA is enabled, the 7950 GX2 achieves almost double the score of the 7900 GTX. This shows how well the dual card setup can handle high image quality settings.
3DMark 2005
Once again, the 7950 GX2 has a clear lead in performance in 3DMark05. The difference has diminished somewhat and is around 20% no matter what resolution is used.
As soon as 8xAF and 8xS AA is turned on the real power of the 7950 GX2 becomes apparent at higher resolutions. While the lead remains roughly the same at low resolution compared to the benchmarks with no AA/AF, as soon as the resolution is raised to 1680x1050 and 1920x1200 the difference approaches a rough 40%.
3DMark 2006
3DMark06, the newest installment of the benchmark series from Futuremark, shows us the same behavior as with 3DMark05.
While synthetic benchmarks may give you "bragging rights" in certain situations, the gaming performance is what counts.
