The NZXT Whisper is a nice looking enclosure, but the big selling point of this unit is not the design. NZXT sells the case - as the name implies - as a perfect basis for silent computing. The used sound dampening materials are one of the big features, aiming to convey the fact that you will have a noticeably quieter PC when using the Whisper. The clean looking door and the heavy duty aluminum plate with the lighting looks great, but the interior does not seem to deviate from standard OEM design. Sure the compartments are a great idea and the hard drives are certainly cooled well. But NZXT has not spent any time trying to improve the interior, like cutting a hole under the CPU area to allow backplates to be removed without mainboard removal or the fact that they have not included any holes to aid in cable routing or hiding and simply did not include power supply cable extention to increase the compatibility.
It feels like they merely took an outdated server case, slapped on a nice front and added some sound dampening to the case - that's it. Sadly, the chassis fails in its primary objective: to be whisper quiet. The fans are very loud, completely negating the sound dampening system. Sure, any internal components will sound a bit quieter, but the included case fan noise would overpower anything anyways. In the end we have to look at the given feature set, if it is functional or useful, the price of the unit and compare it to the general market situation. At 140 US Dollars or 130 €, it is really hard to suggest the Whisper to you, as there are plenty of other options available at this price point. The only option if you really want this case is to go out and buy four silent fans to replace the ones in the case. Then - in combination with the sound dampening - the Whisper makes sense.
