Packaging

Package Front
Package Back

OCZ's package design follows the company's previous SSD products. As color theme, OCZ chose a dark grey, which adds an elegant touch to the package.

You will receive:
  • The SSD
  • Screw Packages
  • 2.5" to 3.5" adapter
  • Documentation
  • OCZ Sticker

The Drive

SSD Front
SSD Back

The drive conforms to the dimensions set forth by the 2.5" form factor. One side of the case is made of metal, while the other side is made of plastic.

SSD Interface Connector

Like most recent SSDs, OCZ's Vertex 4 uses the SATA 6 Gbps interface. It is compatible with any other SATA standard, but will work at reduced performance in such a case.

SSD Teardown PCB Back

The PCB of the Vertex 4 is quite crowded. OCZ has placed 16 flash chips, two DRAM cache chips and the SSD controller on it.

As controller Indilinx's Everest 2 M2502128T048SX22 is used. As we reported here, OCZ confirmed that the controller is a rebranded Marvell controller, which is overclocked and runs OCZ firmware.

SSD Flash Chips

The 16 flash chips are branded OCZ, but we are quite sure they are rebadged IMFlash (Intel-Micron alliance) 25 nanometer NAND flash. Each chip has a capacity of 16 GB.
