PQI 8 GB Class 6 SDHC Review

Value and Conclusion

  • The PQI 8 GB Class 6 SDHC card is available for around $49 excl. shipping.
  • Class 6 at a reasonable price tag
  • Good write speeds
  • Excellent read speeds
  • Cheap compared to other class 6 SDHC card offerings
  • Possible compatibility issues with card readers
  • Write performance far from as good as the market leaders
The PQI 8 GB SDHC card has a lot of things going for it. Both read and write speeds are very good for a card priced at only $49. The main problem with this card is that it does not get recognized by some SDHC card readers which in my book is a major downside. In all fairness I should note that the incompatibility could also be because the readers do not live up to the SDHC specification list. The problem had me baffled for a while because if it says SDHC it better well work with any SDHC compatible reader. It turns out that it is not quite like that. On a side note I tested this card in two cameras and a DAP and every single one of these devices recognized the card instantly.
Once I got this card working with a suitable card reader it turned out to be quite the performer, managing write speeds in excess of its classification is quite a feat. Considering the relatively low price of the card this could be a good purchase if you are looking for a SDHC card for your camera.
