Photo Station
Photo Station is a web album for organizing and sharing photos and videos you have stored on the NAS with the rest of the world. After you upload the files to the NAS, thumbnails will automatically be generated, allowing for a quick preview. You can even select the background music for the slide show and can share the photos by email or publish them to various social media sites.
Music Station
The Music Station will help you create a personal music portfolio on the cloud. This application is web-based and allows users to play music files on the NAS or a media server, and you can also listen to your favorite Internet radio stations through a web browser or a local USB speaker connected to the NAS. You can also share your music with your friends.
File Station
The File Station gives you remote access to the NAS, allowing you to manage the files you have stored on it through a web browser.
Download Station
Download Station allows you to directly download files to your NAS without the intervention of a PC system. It supports BT, HTTP, FTP, RapidShare, and Magnet links.
Surveillance Station
The Surveillance Station is a very important feature of this NAS because it offers live video monitoring and recording of IP cameras over the local network or the Internet. The Surveillance Station Pro on the TS-421 supports up to eight recording channels, but only one is free, so you have to buy additional licenses for its other recording channels if you want to install multiple IP cameras.
There are various options for the setup, the configuration, and the control of all connected IP cameras. Unfortunately, we didn't have one to test this function, but plan on buying some in the near future to have the opportunity to check on the surveillance capabilities of every NAS we get our hands on.
Video Station
The Video Station allows you to enjoy your personal video collections online. Your videos are available anywhere once you upload them. You can also share them with your friends on various social networking sites.
Another significant Station is the Backup one, but we already covered it on
page#11 of this review.
myQNAPcloud Service
The
myQNAPcloud service allows you to access the NAS services through the net.
The myQNAPcloud Service provides host name registration, mapping of the NAS IP, in case it has a dynamic one, and auto-port mapping of UPnP routers on the local network. The wizard easily allows you to setup the service, selecting the NAS services you want to have remote access to over the net.
You can access all published NAS services via the myQNAPcloud website. Once you put your credentials in, you will see a list with all registered NAS servers you have on your account, and you can then specify which NAS you want to access. Afterward, the public NAS services will be listed.
