Surveillance Station

QNAP says the Surveillance Station to be a professional network surveillance Video Management System (VMS) with the following:
  • Enhanced and additional features, including support for over 2600 camera models
  • Expandable license management
  • Cross-browser support
  • Flexible camera control
  • 64 channels live-view on single display and 128 channels with multi-server monitoring
  • Five alarm events and seven event actions
  • 16 multi-view playback
  • Intelligent video analytics (IVA)
  • Visual aid by E-map, which visualizes the IP cameras' layout of deployment
  • VMobile application for on-the-go monitoring with a smartphone

You have to download and install Surveillance Station, found in QNAP's App Center, since doesn't come pre-installed on the NAS.

Once you input your credentials, you will be transferred to the Surveillance Station's web interface.

Use this panel to easily set up the IP cameras you deployed. We installed a Foscam FI8910W, one of the more popular wireless IP cameras supported by the Surveillance Station.

As you can see, installing our camera was very easy, and there are several other option, like scheduled recording, you can configure as you install the camera.

You can set alarms which trigger based on events, in either traditional or advanced mode. The latter provides you with more options.

In System Settings, you can set the maximum length of each recorded file, define what the system will do once available storage space for recordings reaches a specified threshold, or specify how many days to keep recordings—for recordings triggered by alarms or not. You can also configure an alarm-recording function and set access permissions to the cameras the NAS controls. There is even an option to set the RTP (Real-time Transport Protocol) port range.

The TS-451 supports up to 24 recording channels; however, it only comes with licenses for two. So you will have to buy additional licenses from QNAP's store if you want to utilize more channels.

To use the surveillance monitoring function in Chrome, you will first have to install the QVR client, an application.

Surveillance Station's monitoring interface even allows you to add a 3D map of the surveillance area.
