RAID Operations
We perform RAID sync operations during which we measure the time the NAS needs to complete these tasks; average power consumption for these rebuild and synchronization periods is also measured. In NAS servers with four bays or more, we rebuild and sync RAID 1, RAID 5, and RAID 6 arrays, while in smaller two-bay NAS servers, we are confined to a RAID 1 array. The Bitmap option is disabled in NAS servers that support it to produce comparable results since it speeds up RAID rebuild times.

RAID 1 Sync | 1:12:54 | 48.88 W |

RAID 1 Rebuild | 1:15:54 | 47.39 W |

RAID 5 Sync | 2:04:38 | 60.36 W |

RAID 5 Rebuild | 1:12:45 | 70.29 W |

RAID 6 Sync | 2:23:40 | 60.65 W |

RAID 6 Rebuild | 1:44:57 | 62.96 W |

We cranked up sync and rebuild speeds through the corresponding option in the Storage Manager app. This resulted in better performance, but also increased power consumption. Should the NAS be handling other operations during a RAID sync or rebuild, do not increase the priority of the latter since it would stall all other operations.
