  • Easily opened
  • Room for tall drives of up to 12.7 mm
  • Activity LED
  • Aluminum casing
  • Excellent read performance when the proper drive is used
  • Very good write performance, once again with the right drive

  • Hard drive installation still requires the use of tools
  • Only 1 year warranty
The Rosewill RDEE-12002 is a very good external hard drive enclosure in a market that is mainly dominated by price, as there is only so much one can do to differentiate one's self from the competition. The RDEE-12002 combines a lot of good into one unit through very good construction quality, easy access to the interior, a bright activity LED, and the internal SATA 6Gbps interface. With SSDs steadily coming down in price, it is good to have the newest generation SATA interface present as it gives a slight advantage over pure SATA II connectivity when it comes to performance, but the USB 3.0 interface ultimately bottlenecks performance. The bottleneck may also be due to the implementation within the RDEE-12002 or the performance limit of the controller on the Gigabyte motherboard of our test bench. Regardless, it shows what type of performance users in the real world can expect.

That said, the Roswell RDEE-12002 is a great enclosure that delivers on everything with a few nifty little extras that make it stand out a tad bit more than the competition.
