Performance

First Person Shooters (FPS)

To test the first person shooter (FPS) mode, the game Bet On Soldier was used. The game is quite hard and requires a lot of accuracy to gain the required credits without losing a lot of armor or use a lot of ammunition during fire fights. The Saitek Pro Gamer Command Unit was switched to the appropriate mode and the default settings were used. I was surprised how easy the device can be used as there is virtually no learning curve. The little joystick has the same function as the mouse wheel, which means that you could actually use the wheel for different functions instead. Navigating the game, activating doors or using any function available was quite easy. The buttons are responsive and the pad has no problems with large and fast button combinations. This is by far the most comfortable gaming pad I have used so far.

Real Time Strategy (RTS)

To try the real time strategy (RTS) mode, I fired up the latest and greatest - Command and Conquer 3 Demo, which was released a few days ago. I did not set anything up in the Profile Editor on purpose to test the default settings. As soon as I started a skirmish the traditional keyboard became obsolete. I moved the camera with the cursor (2, 5, 6, 7) buttons of the Pro Gamer Command Unit while controlling specific functions like repair mode or attack move with other buttons of the device. There was no need to set up anything to play through a few skirmishes. Even after a longer period of time, the device did not feel uncomfortable in any way. This device is perfect for RTS gamers and should be a great addition at LAN parties.
