RGB lighting is taking over. The eye candy aspect has become so important that the number of products having this feature is close to countless. But actual cloth mouse mats with this attribute are next to none, so Sharkoon grasped the opportunity and created the 1337 RGB, and they did quite well to be honest. However, the lighting's customization options are limited. It does not feature a software driver (which can be understood both as a positive and negative feature), and there are only three built-in effects; however, all three look pleasant.

The microfiber surface material is a great combination of a speed and control mouse pad, which means it makes for a low-friction surface with a fair amount of stopping power. It provides a smooth, consistent, bump-free glide across the whole surface area. I did not encounter any tracking issues whatsoever even while using some older sensors.

The main thing I disliked was the base, which should not be slippery, but tends to move around the desk with stronger swipes of the mouse. This is an error that needs to be corrected even though there are some ways to DIY fix it. I never had a mouse pad that had the same issue before, so it's not my desk causing the problem.

As for the value for the price, I would say if you really care about the lighting and a mouse pad of this size suits you, then it is worth the €19.99.
