The Drive

The drive combines a colored rubber trim that acts as a shock absorber with a plastic case. Besides yellow, blue and black are also available.

As the interface, USB 3.2 Gen 1 is used, connected through a female USB-A port. This is a fairly uncommon configuration; usually, you'd expect a Micro-USB or the more modern USB-C.

Great Idea! The cable can be stored by attaching it in the grooves running around the rubber case of the enclosure.

The 5 TB version (blue) is slightly thicker than the 2 TB version because it uses a physically larger HDD inside.

Disassembly

Taking apart the A66 is very easy—just remove four screws.

Here we see the USB-to-SATA adapter PCB.

The HDD is attached with sticky tape and some foam, which probably helps reduce vibrations.

The 2 TB version uses a 2.5" Seagate Laptop HDD (ST2000LM007), and the 5 TB version uses a 2.5" Seagate BarraCuda (ST5000LM000).

USB-to-SATA conversion is handled by the ASMedia ASM1153 controller.
