Value and Conclusion

  • The Silverstone Lucid LD01 sells for US$130 excl. taxes in the US or €105 incl. taxes in Europe, which is around US$120 USD and, thus, much cheaper for some reason.
  • Three sides made out of glass
  • Very sturdy construction quality
  • Framed in chrome metal strips
  • Upside-down motherboard layout
  • Very good radiator support in the top and front
  • GPU support "shelf" actually quite useful and sturdy
  • Magnetic dust filter on top
  • Easily removable dust filters in front and bottom of chassis
  • Metal shroud to hide PSU
  • Velcro for easier cable management pre-installed
  • USB-C a nice touch for modern smartphone users
  • Can hold up to five hard drives
  • Heavy tint good for more professional settings
  • A bit on the expensive side
  • Does not ship with any fans out of the box—at least one in the back would have been nice
  • USB-C not USB 3.1 Gen 2
The Silverstone Lucid LD01 is perfect for those wanting to move away from plastic or steel enclosures without giving up that understated look. With three sides made out of glass, which are framed in chrome strips, the LD01 manages to make that transition perfectly with its clean lines. The chrome is a nice little touch, and Silverstone made sure you do not need to sacrifice important external features, like dust filters on the top, front, and underside of the chassis.

In addition to this, the USB-C connector, which Silverstone has been pushing for a while, well before other brands, should also come in handy, especially as it is becoming the standard across multiple device categories. The only downside here is the fact that it is still USB 3.0 and not USB 3.1 Gen 2 (5 Gbit/s vs. 10 Gbits/s). However, this also makes for broader compatibility with motherboards as it is easier to find them with the traditional 20-pin USB 3.0 header these days.

On the inside, the Lucid LD01 offers an inverted layout with the motherboard installed upside down. This allows for the GPU fans to point upward, which should help with keeping things cooler inside. On top of that, it makes putting in liquid-cooling systems a bit easier as well. Thanks to the shroud, you can hide all the unsightly elements and keep the interior of the chassis nice and clean. Surprisingly enough, Silverstone has chosen not to include any fans with the Lucid LD01 even though the brand is known for adding value by including retail-grade units. It would have been nice to see one or two 120 mm fans within the chassis to offset the slightly high price tag.

Overall, the Silverstone Lucid LD01 is a very sexy and surprisingly functional case that will appeal to professionals who want that extra uniqueness the material mix supplies without any of the outworldly designs or lighting elements found in modern higher-end enclosures.
